Impulse Testing
Impulse testing is required to test the ability of an electric insulation to withstand lightning and switching surges. This is achieved by generating similar impulse voltages / currents, taking measurements and analyzing results. Impulse testing applications are wide including transformers, motors, coils, cables, switches, circuit breakers, surge protection devices, individual insulation materials, and other products.
An impulse test system consists of a charging stage and an impulse stage forming the impulse generator, voltage divider and measurement system. Generators are two types: voltage impulse generator and current impulse generator. The systems share versatile features.

Current Impulse Generator
Customized to customer's requirements. It can be a stand alone system or integrated in a current impulse test system. It can generate impulse for 1/20 µs, 4/10 µs, 8/20 µs and 10/350 µs applications with very high impulse current amplitudes ranging from 10KA to 200KA depending on waveforms.
Current Impulse Test System
Customized to application and includes impulse generator and control cabinet. It is mainly used for testing arresters and varistors but is also ideal for testing building protection elements, airplanes and helicopters related insulating material, etc. Check our Arrester Testing page.
Voltage Impulse Measurement System
ASD can design and build the control, charging and measurement stages of your voltage impulse generator.
